"Just Get Over It"

I've always hated that saying, and I can honestly say that I've never truly gotten over anything.

I don't think you should "get over" anything, ever. You certainly shouldn't dwell on them, or let them define you, but never forget them -- they make you who you are. You shouldn't "get over" something, you should take something from it. Learn something. And let it add an important lesson to your life, but don't forget about it.

Getting over it isn't the point. Not letting it define you is the point.

  2. I can't stand people who let their circumstances define who they are. I'm so glad someone else finally agrees with me.

  3. Getting over it and surpassing it are interchangeable, though. If there is nothing to gain from an experience (and there are many situations like this), then getting over it isn't a bad idea and there is no loss.

  4. But I'm not talking about something that there's nothing to gain from. Obviously if I broke my pencil and frankly, it's just a fucking pencil, I shouldn't be too hung up on it. And obviously reliving something every day or constantly talking about something is a sign maybe you should just get out more and have some more experiences.
